Have I mentioned that eggtarts are my favourite food in the world? It isn't very common for someone to put eggtarts as their number one favourite but for me, its my true love!! I love eggtarts so much! The moment I take my first bite into the tart, I can taste the crispness of the crust and the softness of the filling. They really complement well with each other! The taste of the egg would spread through my mouth and it would linger even after i have swallowed it. (i'm drooling as i type this!) However, is my "love" harming my body?
As eggtarts are made of eggs, of course, it has very high cholestrol content. The crust mostly made of butter, contains a lot of fats. Let's take a look at the more detailed nutritional facts of Hong Kong Style Eggtarts.

Gosh! See that amount of cholesterol! That is not good! So, you might be wondering what in the world is cholesterol. Cholesterol is a type of fat that is part of all animal cells. It is essential for many of the body’s metabolic processes, including hormone and bile production, and to help the body use vitamin D.
There are two types of cholesterols: High Density lipoprotein cholesterol(HDL) and Low Density lipoprotein(LDL). LDL is also known as the 'bad' cholesterol which enters your bloodstream and clogs up your arteries. This would increase the chances of heart diseases and stroke.
And what types of food contain cholesterol? It would be mainly from saturated fats and you can see from the above nutritional table that eggtarts has a high content of saturated fats too. However, LDL can be lowered by exercising regularly and following a healthier diet.
In conclusion, eggtarts are unhealthy but can be consumed in small amounts still :D
oh no, I just baked a dozen eggtarts for my friends on Sunday night! oops.
